Nato nel 1983 a Chioggia, una ridente cittadina in provincia di Venezia, precisamente nella piccola frazione di Sant’Anna.
Ho vissuto i miei primi anni in un rustico immerso in una pineta, a pochi chilometri dal mare, un magnifico luogo che dovetti presto (e purtroppo) abbandonare, ma che mi lasciò dentro l’amore per la natura.
All’età di 13 anni mi fu regalata la mia prima ed unica fotocamera analogica.
Non ci fu mai un grande feeling tra noi due, devo ammetterlo!
Nonostante ciò, nel 2003 decisi di passare al digitale con una compatta e le cose andarono nettamente meglio, tanto che il passo successivo nel 2011 fu di comprare la mia prima reflex. Come succede a molti, anche io mi resi conto che la qualità della macchina non era sufficiente a fare belle foto: infatti, i primi risultati furono scadenti, prossimi al disastro, tanto da farmi sentire frustrato e impotente davanti alla mia incapacità di gestire quello strumento.
Decisi allora di seguire un paio di corsi, scelta che mi apriì la mente sul mondo della fotografia: cominciai a percepirla in modo nuovo e imparai ad utilizzare al meglio ogni funzione della macchina e iniziai a scattare in modo nuovo e totalmente diverso.
Mi piaceva sperimentare, ero curioso e inizialmente fotografavo un po’ di tutto: gli amici, i miei viaggi in vespa in lungo e largo la penisola, eventi e soprattutto i luoghi abbandonati.
Nel 2012 iniziai a seguire come fotografo Eva Poles (Prozac +) in alcune date del suo primo album da solista e subito scattò un amore verso il palcoscenico musicale.
Nel tempo la musica live è diventata una vera e propria passione, portandomi a fotografare artisti di ogni genere musicale.
È passato qualche anno ma la fotografia resta il fermo immagine delle mie due grandi passioni: la musica e il reportage.
Negli anni ho collaborato con le testate musicali SentireAscoltare, Rockol, SpazioRock, Oca Nera Rock, The Front Row e LoudVision, immortalando concerti, eventi e palchi di respiro nazionale e internazionale.
Non sono molto diverso da quel bambino che oltre vent’anni teneva in mano la sua prima fotocamera: inseguo il passo della tecnologia ma resto tra quelli che le foto le stampano e le tengono tra le mani.
I was born in 1983 near the historic coastal city of Chioggia, in the small village of Sant’Anna which is part of the Veneto region of Italy.
During my early years I lived on a farm surrounded by a forest of pine trees and only a few kilometers from the sea. A magnificent place to grow up and call home, and the place that ultimately shaped my life-long love of nature.
At the age of 13, I received my first analog camera as a present, and honesty at the time I wasn’t that excited about photography. It was a novelty, and I thought the camera was cool.
In spite of my experiences early on, 7-years later in 2003 I decided to move to digital and I purchased a compact digital camera. Things certainly improved, and I was starting to enjoy the challenges of photography. In 2011, I decided to purchase a reflex camera and that became a major turning point in my photographic journey. My first results were so poor, disasters really, and yet I pushed through the helplessness and frustration I was feeling. I began to realize that capturing beautiful images required something more. I needed to better understand how to use the tools and equipment, that was the easy part. I also started to grasp that great photography is an art form, and that would require something new.
I decided to take some photography courses and it literally changed my life. I started to understand photography in new ways, not just becoming an expert on the equipment, but taking photos in totally new and different ways. I would practice taking photos of friends, trips on my Vespa along the peninsula, concerts and other events, but my favorite was the solitude of abandoned places.
Then in 2012 I started following the Italian punk band Prozac+ and Eva Poles as photographer on many dates of her first solo album tour. I immediately fell in love with the musical concert venue and the sheer talent and passion of the musical artists touring.
Live music remains a true passion of mine and continues to be a huge part of my photographic journey. I truly enjoy shooting live musical events and artists of all kinds of music. It’s become the ‘freeze frame’ of my two great passions; music and photography/reportage.
I’ve been extremely fortunate to have collaborated with several musical magazines over the years to help capture national and international concerts; SentireAscoltare, Rockol, Oca Nera Rock, The Front Row and LoudVision.
In retrospect, I’m not so different now from the child who held his first analog camera nearly 25-years ago. Like the sea and the forest, “always changing, yet never changing”. I continue to be intrigued by the technology, but I still love to print the photos and hold them in my hands.
